Hedrick Family
The launching of Overlook in 1965 was a family affair for Rev. Roy, Ruth, Nancy, Wilma, Wanda, and Paul Hedrick.
Each summer week, the family would help prepare food, clean buildings, wash linens and be sure everything was ready for the 100 campers. All this in addition to serving full time at Mt.Clinton church.
"We are convinced that without the love and sacrifice of this family, Overlook may not have become a reality." Arthur & Shirley Grant
Rev. Roy & Ruth Hedrick
"[God] has anointed me to bring good news to the poor, ... to let the oppressed go free..." Luke 4:18
Rev. Jack Pettyjohn (1934-2005) devoted his life in ministry to the marginalized. He served as pastor, psychologist, hospital and jail chaplain, advocate for ex-offenders, counselor, and yes, for a short time, camp leader. Jack had a special heart for youth, especially the troubled ones. We celebrate his life and ministry.
Jack Robey Gracious host, Generous helping hand Naturalist - Administrator Source of Joy to All.
Jack was dedicated to serving our Lord through his church, a steward of creation through Northern VA Regional Parks, and a fun-loving volunteer at Overlook.
Rev. Don Fridinger was one of the dedicated pastors who held a strong vision for E.U.B. Overlook. He rallied his congregation to help build the camp and make the dream a reality. Campers still enjoy the bunk beds built in the fellowship hall of Evangelical UMC with Don's encouragement!
