All God's Children

Picture
A Camp
for Children of Incarcerated Parents

November 5-7, 2021

As United Methodists, we proudly proclaim our hearts, minds, and doors are open to all.  There are certain people in our community who do not hear, or feel the message.  All God’s Children Camp is an intentional effort to reach children of incarcerated parents. To surround them with love and to introduce them to their God and Savior.  It is our hope as a church to do more than just send them to camp for a meaningful and fun weekend.  We would like to link children and families to our local churches to develop an ongoing, life-changing relationship.

1/2 Dozen Ways You can help!
Transport a child, (children) to camp and home.
What a great way to get to know a child and begin a relationship which helps invite them to your church activities.

Be a mentor.  Volunteer Adults work with 2 children each.  Mentors stay in the cabins with the children and relate to them through the meals, programs, and rest times.  Mentors need patience, and Grace to share the love of Christ, even when someone is not acting very lovable.  Mentors also covenant to remain in communication by mail once a month with their campers until the following May.  Mentors must also be ready to navigate the hills and active lifestyle of Camp Overlook.

Provide camper scholarships.   Costs for program, room and board, and leadership average to $150 per camper.  With 30 anticipated campers, AGC Camp requires a lot of generous support.

Provide camping supplies.
We have items on our Amazon Wish list marked for All God's Children.

Provide Surprise Expressions of Love.  Ever get a goody bag when you were away from home?  Remember how special it made you feel?  God’s children are special and they need to feel it.  That is not the message a lot of adults in the lives of our AGC campers give them.  These expressions of love need to be the same for each child.  We want to treat all of them equally.  So if you can help, plan for 30 of whatever you provide.
Some needs include:   A Christmas stocking– about 6 inches long.
       Stocking stuffers
Colored markers (non-toxic Crayola 8 ct. are preferred)

Funds to help provide:   *AGC New Beginnings T-Shirt
       *Noah’s Ark Animal Hand puppet

Pray for the children and their mentors.
Many of these children have considerable emotional needs.  They can be very trying to their mentors and require our best, unconditional love.
